To provide a method for detecting a remaining amount of a sheet in an image forming apparatus, which makes it possible to accurately detect the remaining amount of the sheet even if a driving load of a motor differs for each sheet size and basis weight without providing a sensor used only to detect the remaining amount of the sheet.SOLUTION: By counting the number of switching of connection between a brush of a DC brush motor and a commutator caused by a middle plate rising due to a decrease in a remaining amount of a sheet loaded on a sheet feeder cassette, a remaining amount of the sheet in the sheet feeder cassette is detected.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 8
