To provide an organic EL element which can be long-lived by suppressing the deterioration of luminous efficiency as much as possible while materializing reduction of the production cost by forming at least one organic layer by a wet process.SOLUTION: The organic EL element comprises a pixel electrode (anode) 13, an organic light emitting layer 17 disposed above the pixel electrode 13, a first functional layer 18 disposed on the organic light emitting layer 17 and made of NaF, a second functional layer 19 disposed on the first functional layer 18 and made of an organic material containing Yb, and a counter electrode (cathode) 20 disposed above the second functional layer 19.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 9
