Fixation and retention of extracellular vesicles

The present invention relates to a method for immobilizing extracellular vesicles. The method comprises preparing a sample containing extracellular vesicles and contacting the sample with an irreversible crosslinker and optionally an aldehyde-containing fixative. Preferably, the irreversible crosslinker is 1-ethyl-3- (3-dimethylaminopropyl) carbodiimide. The method also comprises imaging fixed extracellular vesicles for the determination or elimination of a disease or disorder in a clinical sample. The present invention also relates to a kit for immobilizing extracellular vesicles in a biological sample.
