Boron Nitride Nanotube (BNNT) materials are needed, for example, in cryopumps, high surface area filters, coating scaffolds, transition radiation detectors, neutron detectors, and similar systems where large capacities can range from square meters to beyond. It can be arranged in a large capacity structure. Techniques for securing BNNT materials include creating a scaffold of acceptable materials for the final system, such as stainless steel wires for cryopumps. BNNTs can be scaffolded by lyophilization, filtration techniques, conformal surface attachment, and BNNT "glue" when the as-synthesized BNNT material is partially or fully purified and dispersed in a dispersant.
