PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an apparatus and a method for preventing harmonic resonance which can automatically avoid harmonic resonance in a system.SOLUTION: An apparatus for preventing harmonic resonance includes: a transformer operation unit number determining section 91 which is provided on a system having a first transformer 6, a power cable 11 and a harmonic voltage detection relay 8 and determines the number of operation units of the first transformer 6; a cable operation unit number determining section 92 which determines the number of operation units of the power cable 11; a circuit configuration determining section 93 which determines circuit configuration of the system from a determination result of the transformer operation unit number determining section 91 and the cable operation unit number determining section 92; and a circuit configuration changing section 94 which changes the circuit into such a circuit that a resonance frequency of the system is out of a resonance frequency region causing a resonance of an odd harmonics when the harmonic voltage in the system becomes a set value of the harmonic voltage detection relay 8 provided on the system, or more.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 2
