The invention relates to a method for preparing a catalytic material of an electrode for electrochemical reduction reactions, said material comprising an active phase based on a group VIB metal and a group VIII metal, and an electrically conductive substrate, said method comprising: a) a step of forming particles of a catalytic precursor containing a group VIII metal, at least partially in metallic form, on the substrate; b) a step of bringing the catalytic precursor obtained in step a) into contact with an aqueous and/or organic solution containing a catalytic precursor comprising a group VIB metal; c) a step of drying the catalytic precursor obtained in step b) at a temperature of less than 250°C, without subsequent calcination; and d) a step of sulfiding the catalytic precursor obtained in step c) at a temperature of between 100°C and 500°C.
