The present invention relates to a composition for preventing, treating or alleviating obesity containing jaceosidin as an active component. The jaceosidin has an effect of inhibiting differentiation of adipocytes and reducing lipid accumulation in cells. In addition, the jaceosidin exhibits an excellent anti-obesity effect by inhibiting the expression of peroxysome proliferator activator receptor gamma (PPARγ) and CCAAT-enhancer binding protein alpha (C/EBPa) and adiponectin, which are transcription factors involved in adipocyte formation and differentiation. Therefore, jaceosidin of the present invention can be usefully used as a pharmaceutical composition and health functional food for preventing, treating or alleviating obesity.
