The present invention relates to a method for manufacturing a porous silicon carbide sintered body by a carbothermal reduction process. More specifically, metal compound added silicon dioxide and carbon composite powder is manufactured by using liquid silicon compound and carbon compound and a metal compound for promoting carbothermal reduction as starting materials and conducting a sol-gel process. A molded body is manufactured by using the silicon dioxide-carbon composite powder. The molded body is thermally treated at a predetermined temperature. Therefore, while silicon carbide is synthesized through carbothermal reduction, a porous silicon carbide sintered body which has uniformly distributed meso-sized fine pores and excellent mechanical strength can be manufactured.
