The present invention relates to methods of fertilization and sex discrimination and identification in avian subjects. More specifically, the present invention provides a non-invasive method using at least one reporter gene integrated into at least one sex chromosome Z or W, specifically a transgenic avian animal comprising RFP. The transgenic avian animals of the present invention are used for sex discrimination and selection of embryos in unhatched bird eggs.
