The present invention relates to articles comprising expanded thermoplastic polyurethane as a substrate and a specific polyurethane urea coating on the substrate, as well as footwear, methods of making the article, and the use of polyurethane urea solutions. Polyurethane urea coatings comprising polycarbonate structural units have been found to bond strongly to the expanded TPU substrate and maintain the inherent properties of the expanded TPU.
