Glucose transporter inhibitor-regulated insulin for glucose-responsive insulin delivery

The present invention discloses a glucose-responsive insulin delivery system based on the interaction between glucose-regulating insulin and glucose transporter (GLUT) in erythrocyte (or red blood cells, RBCs). After being conjugated with a competitive inhibitor of the glucose transporter, insulin can effectively bind to the RBC membrane. The binding is reversible in the hyperglycemic setting, resulting in a drop in blood glucose (BG) levels in vivo after rapid release of insulin.
