An adaptive matrix multiplier is provided. In some embodiments, the matrix multiplier includes a first multiplication unit, a second multiplication unit, a memory load circuit, and an external buffer circuit. The first multiplication unit includes a first internal buffer circuit and a second internal buffer circuit, and the second multiplication unit includes a first internal buffer circuit and a second internal buffer circuit. The memory load circuit is configured to load data from the memory into a first internal buffer of a first multiplication unit and a first internal buffer of a second multiplication unit in a single burst of the burst memory access mode.
