Disclosed are a system and method for activating or deactivating a semi-persistent sounding reference signal (SP-SRS) resource set. In some embodiments, a method of operation of a wireless device in a cellular communication network includes receiving, from a network node, a media access control (MAC) control element (CE). The MAC CE includes information indicating an indication of an activated or deactivated SP-SRS and a spatial relationship to an activated or deactivated SP-SRS resource set. The MAC CE for activation or deactivation of the SP-SRS resource set is provided in a manner that provides spatially related information in an efficient and flexible manner.
