The present invention relates to a method of treating diarrhea in both chronic and acute forms with administration of an antibody and fragment thereof having a binding specificity for a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of CGRP. In particular, the method prevents or reduces diarrhea, for example, with conditions or treatments that cause high CGRP levels in the GI tract (colon) associated with diarrhea and/or inappropriate electrolyte and fluid drainage from the intestines or urinary system. More specifically, the present invention relates to treatment using the anti-CGRP antibodies and fragments described herein, and binding fragments thereof.
