A flight management system for controlling the navigation of an aircraft includes a path guidance panel having at least one mode selection for allowing a user selection of a guidance mode in which the aircraft operates. The system also includes at least one display device on which the navigation map is rendered. The computer module receives aircraft data from one or more aircraft components, and at least one of the aircraft components is a guidance system. The computer module is configured to use the information obtained from the guidance system so that the at least one display device renders a current flight plan route followed by the aircraft on the navigation map.
