FIELD: measurement technology.;SUBSTANCE: invention relates to methods of determining mechanical characteristics of shells of revolution and can be used to assess their stability, for example, in production of thin-wall glass-fiber shells of fairings of aircrafts. Method of assessing stability of thin-wall fiberglass shells involves measuring ultrasonic velocity values in circumferential and meridian directions of controlled shell, elasticity moduli of the controlled shell material are determined in the circumferential and meridional directions based on the previously constructed regression relationships "modulus of elasticity-ultrasound velocity", critical pressure drop value is calculated for the controlled shell of the constructed finite element model of the shell using elastic moduli of material of the given shell in circumferential and meridian directions and pressure drop over the wall of the shell is created, value of pressure drop for which corresponds to control value of pressure drop, at that value of pressure drop along shell wall during its testing is set 0.4–0.6 of critical pressure drop, and tested shells are evaluated as suitable.;EFFECT: possibility of assessing the stability of thin-wall fiberglass shells during production of articles and high efficiency of this evaluation.;1 cl
