The invention relates to an embossing tool by means of which structures or fine structures which can be detected by tactile means are embossed into a substrate, the embossing tool being designed as a plate with a front side and a rear side, and with a first edge and a second edge opposite the first edge a first corrugation in an edge area of the first edge on the front of the plate and on the back of the plate and a second corrugation in an edge area of the second edge on the front of the plate and on the back of the plate, wherein the edge area of the first edge and the edge area of the second edge overlap during a subsequent tensioning of the embossing tool on an embossing cylinder such that the edge area of the first edge is arranged below the edge area of the second edge, so that the structures of the first corrugation arranged on the front of the plate and that on the R Interlock structures of the second corrugation arranged on the back of the plate. According to the invention, the two edge areas of the plate interlock, thereby preventing the embossing plate from slipping or shifting.
