The vine pre-cutting system (2) is characterized in that the cutting unit (22) has a plurality of cutting devices (23) which are arranged horizontally spaced apart from one another to provide a storage area for the vine strands (R), and in that the cutting devices (23) Contain cutting tools (24) which are present on the side of the cutting devices (23) facing the storage area and are arranged in a stationary manner in the vertical direction. The invention further relates to a hop-picking machine (1) equipped with the vine pre-cutting system (2) and to a method for separating vine sections of predetermined length from vine strands (R) from hop plants. The invention overcomes the disadvantages in the prior art and provides a vine pruning system (2) by means of which the amount of hop plants fed to a hop-picking machine (1) can be metered better.
