An arc detection method includes classifying whether there is an arc fault in the power system by labeling the interval range as a candidate interval range if a size spectrum of the interval range meets first criteria for each of a plurality of interval ranges of a current frame of a signal; determining a number of candidate interval ranges in the current frame; designating the number of candidate interval areas as candidate cluster interval areas if the number of candidate interval areas exceeds a minimum cluster size; determining whether the candidate cluster interval range is also a candidate cluster interval range of a previous frame of the first signal for each of the candidate cluster interval ranges, and identifying the current frame as a candidate frame and incrementing a candidate frame count, if so; and determining that there is an arcing fault in the power system if the candidate frame count exceeds a candidate frame count threshold.
