In order to provide an electrochemical unit which has the longest possible service life and whose hazard potential is minimized, it is proposed that the electrochemical unit comprises one or more electrochemical cells and a cell receptacle for receiving the one or more electrochemical cells, the cell receptacle having an interior of the surrounds the electrochemical unit, wherein the one or more electrochemical cells are held in the cell receptacle, wherein a part of the interior surrounding the one or more electrochemical cells forms a cooling space of the electrochemical unit and wherein the cooling space is partially or completely filled with a cooling medium of the electrochemical unit is filled.
