The present application relates to a method for producing an agent for treating keratinous material, in particular human hair, comprising the following steps: (1) mixing one or more organic CC-alkoxy-silanes with water, (2) partial or complete removal of the CC alcohols released from the reaction mixture by the reaction in step (1), (3) optionally adding one or more cosmetic ingredients, and (4) filling the preparation into a packaging unit, characterized in that the total content of CC alcohols in the preparation obtained after step (4) - based on the total weight of the preparation - is below 10.0% by weight.
