The invention relates to a method for detecting the condition of a road surface (1) for a vehicle (3), a LiDAR device (5) of the vehicle (3) being used, and the following method steps being carried out: a) Emitting laser radiation ( 7) by means of the LiDAR device (5) of the vehicle (3) in the direction of the road surface (1) on which the vehicle (3) is traveling, b) detecting reflected laser radiation (9) of the laser radiation (7) emitted according to method step a) ) by means of the LiDAR device (5) as signals, c) evaluating the signals detected according to method step b) with regard to the height (11) from which - relative to the road surface (1) - the detected signals to the LiDAR device (5 ) were reflected back, d) categorizing the evaluated signals into at least three categories, the first category having signals which, taking into account a predeterminable error limit, sta mmen, the second category has signals that seem to originate from below the road surface (1) and the third category has signals to which no height information relative to the road surface (1) can be assigned, e) statistical evaluation, whether more signals in the first category or more signals, summed up, fall into the second and third categories, f) determining a condition of the road surface (1), the road surface (1) being determined as dry if more signals fall into the first category than summed up in the second and third category, and wherein the road surface (1) is determined to be wet if more signals, summed up, fall into the second and third categories than fall into the first category.
