An axial through fixing means to mount and hold a first elongate handle 60 and second elongate handle 61 on opposing faces 66A & 66B of a planar fire resistant door panel 66 wherein the axial through fixing means comprises a first plate assembly 10 engaged by a male threaded portion 2d to a female threaded portion 3c of a second plate assembly 11, wherein each plate assembly has a bonded interface 10a and 11a disposed on the opposing faces of a fire resistant door panel; wherein the bonds at are maintained rigidly intact at normal room temperature but fail when exposed to a fire; releasing the attached first elongate handle on face 66a when that face is exposed to the fire, or releasing the attached second elongate handle 61 when that face 66b is exposed to a fire. The purpose of the sacrificial fixings is to preserve the integrity of the door by preventing distortion or twisting of the panel. Intumescent and insulating components may also be incorporated within the handle fixings to improve fire resistance.
