Method and system of modifying a mapping of throttle pedal input to torque demand, comprising the steps of identifying a pull-away, assessing the pull-away against a criterion related to emissions or fuel-consumption, and when the pull-away is assessed as meeting the criterion, information related to captured throttle pedal position during the pull-away is used to modify the mapping. Modifying the mapping may include modifying one or more pedal scalars. Preferably, the criterion is average CO2 production, fuel-consumption, duration of the pull-away or gradient, wherein the criterion is assessed against a threshold value. Assessment may comprise an anomaly detection algorithm could be utilised, wherein the algorithm uses Gaussian distributions trained on throttle pedal position data captured during prior pull-aways. Assessment could also be determining, from the throttle pedal input, whether the driver’s reaction to the pull-away was consistent with a reaction from previous pull-aways. The mapping could be for a low-fuel-consumption mode.
