A letter-plate (1, fig 1, not shown) comprises a mounting plate 2 with a frame 5 that is intended to be fitted around an aperture in a door 3. A flap 7 is pivotally mounted to the mounting plate along one edge 8 such that in use the flap projects upwards from the pivotal mounting to cover the aperture. The flap is restricted by a projecting part 13 which bears against a portion the mounting plate or adjacent door surface when the flap is fully open. This restricts opening beyond a predetermined angle A with respect to a longitudinal axis L of the aperture. The angle A may be between 15° and 60° and the projecting part may include an upturned edge 14. The letter-plate may further include a sleeve portion 6 for extending through a door aperture. The restricted opening of the flap hinders fishing through the letter-plate from an exterior of the door.
