Techniques for determining the position of an item based on multiple RFID parameters from multiple read events are described. The computer system accesses the first read event. A first RFID reader located in the first zone generates a first read event at a first time. The first read event identifies the RFID tag and includes a first RFID parameter. The computer system accesses the second read event. A second RFID reader located in the second zone generates a second read event at a second time within a predefined time from the first time. The second read event identifies the RFID tag and includes a second RFID parameter. The computer system determines whether the position of the item is within the first zone or the second zone based on the two or more first RFID parameters and the two or more second RFID parameters.
