Zur Inkommensurabilität der politischen Philosophie von Spinoza und Kant (On the incommensurability of Spinoza's and Kant's political thinking)

Spinoza is interested in causal analyses and social technologies and may rather be called a political scientist. Kant, on the other hand, is indeed a political philosopher and as such concerned with the legitimation of political systems. Both are not competitors with regard to their political thought, but rather complementary to each other. Thus, it would be a great mistake to think that one could forego the epistemological programme of the one in favour of the other. Without profound empirical knowledge there cannot be any responsible politics, and without wellfounded normative principles one cannot even conceive of such politics.Spinoza und Kant konkurrieren in ihrer "politischen Philosophie" nicht miteinander, sondern verhalten sich vielmehr komplementär zueinander. Spinoza liefert eine Staatslehre, Kant eine Staatsrechtslehre. Spinoza ist in seinem politischen Denken ein an Kausalanalysen und Sozialtechnologien interessierter Gesellschaftstheoretiker, Kant ein an juridischen Normzusammenhängen interessierter Moralphilosoph. Eben deshalb wäre es ein großer Irrtum zu meinen, man könne gleichsam auf das Erkenntnisprogramm des einen zugunsten des anderen verzichten. Ohne gründliche empirische Kenntnis ist verantwortliches politisches Handeln nicht möglich, und ohne moralisch-rechtliche Prinzipien kann man sich von einem solchen Handeln nicht einmal einen Begriff machen.
