Priority-Oriented Adaptive Control With QoS Guarantee for Wireless LANs.

In today’s wireless networks there is a great needudfor QoS, because of the time-bounded voice, audio and videoudtraffic. A new QoS enhanced standard is being standardized byudthe IEEE 802.11e workgroup. It uses a contention free accessudmechanism called Hybrid Control Channel Access (HCCA) toudguarantee QoS. However, HCCA is not efficient for all types ofudtime-bounded traffic. This work proposes an alternative protocoludwhich could be adapted in HCF (Hybrid Coordination Function).udThe Priority Oriented Adaptive Control with QoS Guaranteeud(POAC-QG) is a complete centralized channel access mechanism,udit is able to guarantee QoS for all types of multimedia networkudapplications, it enhances the parameterized traffic with priorities,udand it supports time division access using slots. Furthermore, itudinstantly negotiates the quality levels of the traffic streamsudaccording to their priorities, supporting multiple streams to theudbest quality it can achieve. POAC-QG compared to HCCA,udprovides higher channel utilization, adapts better to theudcharacteristics of the different traffic types, differentiates theudtraffic streams more efficiently using priorities, and generallyudexhibits superior performance.
