In the previous studies Jodo-gardens have been defined as ones which represent the atmosphere of Jodo. This definition is regarded as ambiguous and inadequate since it cannot help being accused of its criterion which is both abstract and subjective. The definition must be rather considered from the aspects of the physical relationship of locations between the Buddhist temple and the pond and the features of the garden. Thus the present study is intended to examine the space structures by tracing the pondu27s foundation period in order to represent the original physical relationship of locations between the Buddhist temple and the pond of the garden. For this purpose, the present study investigates the gardens of Joruriji Temples which have been taken to have a lack of the optical unity in the Buddhist temple and the pond. The results of this study represent that the space structures founded in Enjoji Templeu27s garden are converged on the development of the temple. The valid reasons are provided by the following facts and possibilities explored in the present study which shows that (i) there is a difference between the Buddhist temple and the pond in terms of the height of the foundation, (ii) a two-storied gate is built between the Buddhist temple and pond, (iii) the border between the two-storied gate and pond has been regarded as a main path since the period of the templeu27s establishment, (iv) bridges in the northern and southern part of the garden might be temporary constructed or not constructed at the establishment period, and (v) the Buddhist hall is visually integrated with the pond in sight from the southern shore while there was expected to be a obstacle of difference in the height or the two-storied gate to such a visual integration. On the other hand, the features of space structures in Joruriji Templeu27s garden are examined in comparison with other Jodo-gardensu27. The results of the present study show that the placement of the Buddhist temple and the pond in the garden is unbalanced, and that the present s
