摘要

With a diary-study, an online survey, a focus-group and an extensive interview with a taxi driver we aimed to research and discuss the changes that are becoming evident in our everyday life since the occurrence of smartphones. We concentrate our study to the effects of travel aiding technologies such as GPS and interactive maps present in smartphones, on our everyday life, travel routines and our relationship with this technology. With an ontological subjective first person perspective, we continuously processed information, generated trough our four methods, and deducted and analysed discourses trough interpretation. Through this process we accomplish a reasoned discussion that can be applied in a broader context. We see evidence of new travel routines that empower the smartphone to be the only medium containing our travel information, such as destination, route and location is creating a dependency to the technology. The same routine empower the people that have difficulties orientating them selves, giving them courage to go to new locations and helping them with common travel tasks. The smartphones functionality gives us the option to reach information everywhere, anytime, making the analogue travel information systems obsolete and redundant. We noticed that people that use their smartphone in travel situation do not have the need to ask others for help and there are different opinions about it. Some feels it like a relief and others feels like they have become more antisocial. There are two different opinions about travel aiding technology. Some consider it helpful while others approach the technology with criticism, feeling it is taking over their ability to navigate. The two different opinions are usually connected to people who see themselves as good or bad navigators. We notice that the smartphone and its travel aiding technologies are promoting more than just a dependency, but also an addiction. The addiction is noticeable in the constant use and rechecking information without any real purpose. We discuss a variety of reasons for this behaviour and if it really is an addictive behaviour.
