The Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) image has a high resolution udand not udinfluenced by weather conditionsud either day or night. SAR imageud with its udadvantages, is becoming popular udthan the optical image in earthud observation udusing the remote-sensing techniques. However, the speckle noiseud that occurs udin the SAR image causes difficulties in image interpretation. Tudhus, speckle udnoise reduction needuds as prepossessing procedure prior to the uudse of the SAR udimages. The ideal speckle filterud has the capability of reducingud speckle noise udwithout losing the information and preserving texture. Fuzzy apudproach has a udgood performance to reduce speckle noise in a medical image, whudich is udoccurred on a SAR image. It propoudsed a filter which is a combinudation of fuzzy udwith qualified existing filter thaudt applied to SAR image, aimedud at eliminating udspeckle noise while maintaining udtexture. The results showed thaudt the udproposed filter has better perfudormance than commonly used filteudrs such as udthe Mean, Median, Kuan, Lee, and Frost filters. The experimentsud conducted in uda homogeneous area; forests, plaudntations and oceans from ALOS-PudALSAR udimage in the area of Kuantudan, Pahang, Malaysia.
