Values are an important part of personality. They perform a motivational function, which means they direct our choice of actions and affect our mutual relations. During the life of an individual, values change, and in their development, every human being goes through different value orientations. The development of an individual's values is influenced by their family, which shapes the foundations for a child to build their value system on. Later on, school plays and important part; teachers and peers, and also broader cultural environment and the media. Because they are aware of the fact that values influence the actions of an individual and their attitude towards their surroundings, parents and teachers increasingly wonder about their role in the field of shaping a child's values.udIn my study, I was trying to determine whether values differ between different age groups, and therefore I examined which values are the most important to children, youth, and adults. I was also trying to determine which are the values that parents and teachers strive for the kids to acquire, and how well they, in their own opinion, achieve those values. I was also interested in how much importance parents and teachers attribute to their roles in the field of shaping a child's values.udThe results of my research have shown that values in different periods of development differ. Parents and teachers strive to impart especially moral values, and most of them believe they are successful in reaching the desired results. udParents and teachers are aware of the importance of their role in the field of shaping the values of children. Their method of passing the values on is mostly through conversation and setting examples.ud
