摘要

Metal complexes of a beta-lactam antibiotic, benzylpenicillin with Oxovanadium (IV), Chromium (III), Cobalt (II), Nickel (II), Palladium (II), Neodymium (III) and Samarium (III) cations have been synthesized. These complexes have been characterized on the basis of their elemental analysis and spectroscopic data. Pharmacological properties of these complexes have also been tested and compared with that of parent compound (Potassium penicillin G). It is found that antibacterial activity of Benzylpenicillin is decreased on coordination with above metals except with neodymium and samarium where activity is comparable.
