Technology Transfer in Advanced Materials: The Ceramic Manufacturers'Perspective. Topical Report, August 1992

A meeting of a focus group relating to technology transfer issues in the advancedmaterials industry is discussed. The purpose of the focus group was to obtain an understanding of the challenges and opportunities afforded by collaborative industry/academic research initiatives. The participants primarily represented ceramic component manufacturers for various original equipment applications. The report lists the participants and discusses the process employed in the discussion and observations and recommendations resulting from the session. The meeting generated recommendations for several actions that GRI can take to assist the Center for Advanced Materials and the industry partners to enhance the success of new technologies. Some of these are: improve communications with the end user of the research by providing a conduit between the researchers, sponsors, and ultimate end users; assist in clarifying the technology transfer process issues from the perspective of both the sponsor and research partner.
