Land-Use Related Sources of CO2, CH4 and N2O. Current Global Emissions andProjections for the Period 1990-2100

The report presents part of the results of a study carried out by the RIVM forthe ESCAPE project 'Development of a Framework for the Evaluation of Policy Options to Deal with the Greenhouse Effect'. The report describes a preliminary study carried out to provide a basis for the development of the IMAGE Land Use Model. The main purpose of the study is to assess the relations existing between various land use changes and agricultural processes, to outline the trade-offs between the different policy options and to evaluate the impact of different strategies to control emissions related to land use. The results for 1990 have been used to calibrate the model for the base year. The projections presented in the report have been used to test the scenarios developed with the IMAGE Land Use Model.
