Determination of Drag Coefficients for Straight Link Bouy Chain

Using a circulating water channel, the values of drag coefficient for three sizesof buoy chain were determined at various angles and Reynold's numbers. These drag coefficients were compared to results obtained by P. Eisenberg (1945) and L. W. Bonde (1965) in an attempt to substantiate their data. The results indicate that subtle differences in the experimental setup have a significant effect on values obtained. Under controlled circumstances with short links of chain at constant angles, drag coefficient decreases with increasing chain size for a given Reynold's number. This is in agreement with Eisenberg's findings.
