High-Temperature Infrared Spectroscopy of YC13: The Vibration Spectrum, MolecularStructure and Thermodynamic Functions

摘要

The infrared spectrum of gaseous YCl3 has been measured at 1400 K and threeabsorption bands have been found in the 50 to 600/cm range. Based on a comparison to LaCl3, of which the spectrum was also recorded, it is concluded that the absorption maximum at 370/cm is an overlap of the two stretching frequencies of a pyramidal structure. By spectral deconvolution the absorption bands could be separated, resulting in the following vibrational assignments: nu(sub 1) = 378, nu(sub 2) = 78, nu(sub 3) = 359 and nu(sub 4) = 58.6/cm. From these data the ideal gas thermodynamic functions have been calculated.
