The report provides a survey of laws and regulations affecting privacy in boththe public and private sector. It describes the fundamental principles of U.S. privacy protection policy, including developments in U.S. privacy law since 1982. Federal privacy guidelines and industry self-regulation are also discussed. Appendices include a glossary of U.S. privacy laws and a partial list of U.S. privacy laws.
