The report is Number 4 of six commissioned reports contained in Volume 7 of theseven volume TransNET West project final report on Transportation and Trade Expansion in Western North America. The report documents the history and development of the U.S.-Canada border crossing at Sweetgrass, Montana/Coutts, Alberta and the planning processes and cooperative initiatives which have facilitated its growth. This crossing was chosen as a case study because it offers an example of how local initiative, federal assistance, state/provincial cooperation and the private sector can coalesce to improve cross border efficiency and at the same time stimulate economic development.
