The report contains a technical evaluation of the compatibility of 100% gas firing in coal designed boilers, reviews previous experiences, and develops a NOX emission correlation to address the concerns of NOX emission levels and steam generation capacity when firing gas in coal designed boilers. The weak luminosity of the gas flames as compared to coal flames can result in high furnace gas exit temperatures and steam temperatures, and capacity derates.
