Leaders in the field of fishery management from Canada, Chile, Iceland, New Zealand, Norway, Peru, and the United States presented papers on lessons learned in applying different fishery management policies. Participants concurred that individual transferable quotas appear to be the best management strategy in the current situation of overinvestment and overfishing. The paper is divided into chapters covering the fishery management experience of different countries, as well as conceptual chapters and a review of world trends.
