Dr. J. B. Thrersch in personal communication (1) indicated his animal research has reported dimethyl acetamide to be an effective abortifacient agent; monomethyl formamide to be a potent teratogenic agent without abortifacient properties; and dimethyl formamide to have no teratogenic or abortifacient activity. Although the details of Thierach's methodology were not available to us, this present test was designed to evaluate the possible abortifacient andfor teratogenic properties of the above compounds when administered orally to rats at several dose levels and at various times during pregnancy.
