Periodic Service with Working Overtime and Producing to Stock in a Multi-ProductProduction Center

In the paper, the authors consider a single machine at which two types of orderswith deterministic processing times arrive according to independent Bernoulli processes. The authors consider two simple possibilities to improve the performance of the periodic switching strategy: working overtime and producting to stock. The authors show for the two models that the queue-length distribution for both types of orders can be determined efficiently. From the queue-length distribution, the authors can determine the delivery-time distribution of orders for investigating how much the performance of the periodic switching strategy may be improved by introducing either working overtime or producing to stock.
