摘要

The research activities of the laboratory were continued intensively despite thesevere recession experienced by the Finnish economy. The outside funding of projects was maintained at a fairly good level. Despite the fact the general unemployment in the country exceeded 20 percent, our graduates have still been able to find employment in industry. As a matter of fact we are experiencing a shortage of students. There is generally more than an adequate supply of diploma work topics and small projects from the industry. Our students have found jobs also outside the traditional metallurgical industry. International co-operation has become increasingly important. We are participating in several international projects, including two European Union Brite-Euram projects, one Eureka project
