Enhanced Integration of Multimodal Ground Transportation with Air Transportationat Selected Major Air Carrier Airports

Field surveys were conducted at Houston Intercontinental (IAH), William P. Hobby(HOU), Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW), and New Orleans (MSY) airports. The methodology used in conducting this project involved: (1) an extensive literature review and descriptive analysis of existing ground transportation services at large airports and (2) the gathering of information and data on the profile of airport patrons and the propensity of airport patrons to utilize mass transit systems to access large airports. Careful analysis of all findings from this research effort revealed serious ground transportation problems at large airports primarily caused by vehicle congestion. The research report concluded with recommended solutions to the foci of ground transportation problems at large airports; namely, vehicular congestion on roadways and terminal curbs.
