Technology's Role in Education Reform: Findings from a National Study of211 Innovating Schools

Educational reform calls for a shift away from organizing instruction around211u001eshort blocks of time devoted to lecture or practicing discrete skills in specific 211u001eacademic disciplines toward an emphasis on engaging students in long-term, 211u001emeaningful projects. It is well documented that technology can enhance student 211u001eacquisition of discrete skills through drill and practice. This study addresses 211u001ethe question of whether technology can provide significant support for 211u001econstructivist, project-based teaching and learning approaches and the associated 211u001eissue of the elements needed for an effective implementation of technology within 211u001ean educational reform context.
