Analysis of State Laws Addressing Elder Abuse, Neglect, and Exploitation

This report presents findings of a survey of state laws addressing elder abuse,211u001eboth domestic and institutional, that was completed by the National Center on 211u001eElder Abuse (NCEA). In early February 1993, the National Eldercare Institute on 211u001eElder Abuse and State Long Term Care Ombudsman Services designed and mailed to 211u001ethe adult protective service (APS) agencies and state units on aging of all 50 211u001estates, the District of Columbia, Guam, Puerto Rico, and the Virgin Islands (a 211u001etotal of 54 jurisdictions) a survey instrument, A Checklist Survey of State APS 211u001eand Aging Agencies on Key Features of State Laws Addressing Elder Abuse, Neglect, 211u001eand Exploitation. The Institute asked the APS and aging agencies to consult with 211u001eone another in completing the survey instrument and return one completed 211u001einstrument per state, if there was only one state law addressing elder abuse. 211u001eHowever, if their state had two separate statutes, the Institute requested that 211u001ethe agencies complete two separate survey instruments, one for domestic elder 211u001eabuse and the other for institutional elder abuse.
