Effort Management in North Carolina Fisheries: A Total Systems Approach.Fisheries Research Reports to the Fisheries Moratorium Steering Committee

The objectives of this project were: To assess the current state of NorthCarolina fisheries with respect to the relationship between effort, catch and landings, and the social and economic conditions in the fisheries; To collect data on effort control or reduction systems which are currently in use in other fisheries, and their characteristics and effects with respect to the needs of North Carolina fisheries; To solicit, through an extensive series of public, fishery constituent workshops in locations throughout the state, the involvement of all of those involved or concerned with North Carolina fisheries in education and assessment concerning limited entry alternatives; and to develop an evaluative framework through which the Moratorium Steering Committee, Marine Fisheries Commission, General Assembly, fishery constituent groups and the public may evaluate the appropriateness of various limited entry alternatives for North Carolina fisheries.
