The aim of this project is to develop a method for calculating the effectiveconductivity of a fractured reservoir as a function of grid block size. The problem was formulated as a system of coupled Poisson equations. From these equations an equivalent boundary integral formulation of the problem was derived. The authors wrote and validated a numerical code, based on the boundary element method, for solving the boundary integral equations. The authors used the code to calculate grid block effective conductivities of some hypothetical fracture systems. Some simple statistics were computed for the conductivity results, which show correlations to the underlying statistics of the fracture system. The grid block effective conductivities were used in a finite difference code to compute the flow through the region containing the fracture system. The authors also used to code to generate the grid block effective conductivity for a fracture system based on field data from a tight gas sand reservoir.
