Spawning Behavior of the Paleback Darter, 'Etheostoma pallididorsum', (Percidae)

Laboratory observations of spawning behavior of the paleback darter (Etheostomapallididorsum) from the Caddo River drainage, Montgomery Co., Arkansas were made from 2 to 14 March 1994. Spawning behavior has not been reported for this species, which is a member of the subgenus Ozarka. Four of the five species of Ozarka are considered imperiled, and information on all aspects of life history and ecology is necessary to insure the best possible protection for these species. Specimens were collected from a tributary to Gap Creek (Caddo River system), Arkansas Hwy 8, T4S, R24W, sec. 18, Montgomery Co. , Arkansas on 1 March 1994. Water temperature was 10 deg. C.
